Discipleship Classes

"Study to show yourself approved by God, a workman who need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."  ~2 Timothy 2:15

Discipleship is a journey of intentional decisions leading to maturity in your relationship with Jesus so that you become more like Him in your attitudes, focus, and lifestyle. It requires a commitment and is a lifelong commitment to follow God with your whole self and to both learn from and eventually teach others about how to follow Him.  At Hampstead Baptist, we are biblically-driven for life.  We seek to be a resource to come alongside each other in drawing closer to God through various discipleship opportunities like those listed below.  And not only through these, but in all we do, being "biblically-driven for life" is our goal.

Defined literally, a disciple is someone who follows someone else; namely, in Christianity, a disciple is one who follows Jesus.  What does that look like? Well, discipleship in practice is not literal, as Jesus doesn't physically walk on the earth anymore.  On social media, one "follows" certain people, celebrities, teachers, groups, etc.  Why? People follow their interests, their curiosities, their loves.  There's a seemingly never-ending scroll of information about most any topic, what about "following" Jesus? Following Jesus is much more than scrolling through a newsfeed, though one does choose to follow Jesus because of the same reasons-- interest, curiosity, and love (among others). More importantly and specifically, a disciple models his or her life after the one whom they're "following."  What Jesus taught, a disciple wants to learn.  What Jesus did, a disciple also wants to do.  Discipleship is the process of becoming a disciple-- a process that begins the moment one first believes and lasts forever.

Read the entire Bible with Us in 2025!
This special Bible reading system allows you to read the entire Bible in one year while only reading five times a week. Five readings a week gives room to catch up or take a day off to focus on other Bible reading or spiritual disciplines, and makes daily Bible reading practical and do-able.
The Old Testament readings are placed as chronologically as possible (even the Psalms are read where they belong in Israel's history when feasible, and this is why some prophets -- notably Jeremiah -- appear to be "out of order"). The only exception is Job, probably the oldest book in the Bible, but placed at the Schedule's end because it is hard to fit elsewhere. The New Testament readings space the Gospels out throughout the year to keep the reader constantly coming back to the life and teachings of Jesus.

Always do the reading in the order it appears on the Schedule. For example, if a reading from Chronicles appears before Kings, read from Chronicles first. Check off each day's reading, and then check off each week in the Weekly Progress Register. You will be amazed at how soon you are deep into the year and still reading your Bible regularly! Many people have successfully reached their goal of regular Bible reading using the Schedule and you can too! God's blessings rest with those who will read, understand, and live by His Word.

“Thy word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path" (Psalms 119:105).
